Overview

Starting at the beautiful Kimmeridge Bay, trek along the breathtaking Jurassic Coast, a World Heritage Site, amidst the spectacular views of sea-carved bays, dramatic cliffs, and fossil-strewn beaches. Passing impressive and iconic landmarks like Lulworth Cove, the famous limestone arch of Durdle Door, and the Osmington White Horse. Guided by friendly trekking leaders and supported by refreshment points along the way, sections of the route venture inland, unveiling vast Iron Age hill forts, chalk figures, enchanting castles, and grand stately homes. Your trek culminates in the delightful seaside town of Weymouth, where the sandy beach, dotted with colourful huts and Georgian houses. Celebrates the triumphant finish of your adventure with well-deserved drinks and a light meal alongside your team-mates.

There are two payment options for this challenge.

All payment options have an initial £49 non-refundable deposit on sign up.

Full payment option

Pay £49 deposit upfront and £136 remaining balance 4 weeks before your challenge. Please raise £350 for The Katie Piper Foundation. 

Fundraising option

Pay £49 deposit and fundraise a minimum of £500 for The Katie Piper Foundation, with 80% (£400) due 8 weeks before your challenge and the remaining 20% (£100) due 4 weeks after your challenge. The Katie Piper Foundation will then pay the cost of your challenge of £136.

 

Day 1

Embark on this remarkable 25km journey on foot, led by friendly Adventurous Ewe Leaders. Starting from the stunning shores of Kimmeridge Bay, your route follows the dramatic Jurassic Coast, England’s first natural World Heritage Site, rich with 185 million years of Earth’s history. This region showcases some of the most significant geological formations and accessible marine wildlife along the coast.

With the 1830s Clavell Tower behind you, trek across rolling green hills to the pristine white pebble beach and crystal-blue waters of Lulworth Cove, a charming hamlet dotted with thatched cottages and fishing gear.

Continuing onward, you’ll encounter Dorset’s iconic Durdle Door, a 150-million-year-old natural limestone arch formed through powerful earth movements and erosion, framed by dazzling bays. Near Durdle Door, a checkpoint offers refreshments and water refills to keep you energised as you trek through geological time.

Passing the coastal hamlet of Osmington Mills with a rolling checkpoint, you’ll soon catch sight of the beautiful Weymouth Bay, signalling the end of your epic journey. This view draws you to the sandy shores of Weymouth, filled with pride and a deep sense of accomplishment for completing this inspiring one-day trek in support of the Katie Piper Foundation.

Pre-trek support

With being a small family business we pride ourselves with providing personal, professional and friendly service. We appreciate that everyone has different levels of experience and reasons for wishing to embark on the Jurassic Coast Trek and therefore require varying levels of support and guidance. We’re here to help you every step of the way from the moment you join the flock all the way through to completing the trek and beyond. Jim and Sue’s knowledge and expertise stems from dozens of years of travelling and exploring the UK in order to fully support you in the lead up to your adventure.

Start & finish transfers

Start – Kimmeridge Bay

The trek will start in Kimmeridge Bay along the Jurassic Coast and is located within a marine Special Area of Conservation. 

Drive
Take the B3075 through Wareham, following signs for Kimmeridge. You’ll need to use a toll road (£6 per car) to access the car park.
 
Take the train

The nearest train stations are Wareham, Wool, and Swanage. From there, you can take a bus or taxi to Kimmeridge Bay: 

  • From WarehamTake bus number 40 towards Swanage and get off at Norden (Dorset), Norden Farm. Then take a taxi to Kimmeridge Bay. 
     
  • From SwanageTake bus number 40 towards Poole and get off at Corfe Castle, Calcraft Road. Then take a taxi to Kimmeridge Bay. 

Transfer to the start

We will provide a transfer service from Weymouth to Kimmeridge Bay at a cost of £18 per person which must be booked in advance with Adventurous Ewe. Please note, this transfer takes approximately 1 hour and there is a toll charge for the vehicle included. For reservations, please email susan@adventurousewe.co.uk. Payment can be made via card, via our event online event platform or BACS transfer.

Finish – near Weymouth Beach 

The trek finishes in Weymouth along the beach front. Celebratory refreshments and lite meal will be served. From there you are welcome to make your way home or organise your own accommodation to stay the night following your challenge. 

Adventurous Ewe Leaders & Crew

You will be accompanied by certified, friendly and supportive Adventurous Ewe Leaders and Crew. Our Leaders are first aid qualified and have extensive experience in leading treks throughout the UK. They will be ultimately responsible for the running of the itinerary and the safety of your group.

Leaders and Crew will carrying full safety equipment and first aid kits with them at all times. Please note, these kits are for emergencies only so please come prepared with your own personal first aid items. The Leaders and Crew will also be in constant radio communication with the support vehicles throughout your trekking challenge.

Group size

We pride ourselves in small group travel to minimise the impact on the environment, to maximise your safety and well-being and to make your experience more authentic.

The minimum group size for the The Katie Piper Foundation Jurassic Coast Trek to run is 30 people and the maximum group size is 60 people. You will be taking part in teams of up to 10 trekkers per team and you’ll be accompanied by a Leader for the duration of the trek. 

You are most welcome to join this fundraising trek as a group of friends, family, colleagues, a private group or as a solo traveller. All funds raised will go to the vital work of The Katie Piper Foundation.

Group management

The 25km trek is a team event and not designed to be an individual competitive race. You will be taking part in teams of up to 10 people with a dedicated Leader. We encourage team spirit and support of each other to ensure everyone has the best opportunity to complete the challenge and enjoy the journey along the way too.

We ask all participants to have foster these 4 attributes:

  1. Sense of adventure – you’ve signed up to an epic trek, so you’re sense of adventure is off to a great start. Put in the hard work with training and preparation, so you can enjoy your adventure ahead.
  2. Sense of teamwork – it’s not a race. You’re all in this together so look out for one another and help each other along the way.
  3. Sense of humour – there will be things you’re not used to, and things may go wrong, so try not to let it overshadow your trek and maintain a sense of humour. It always adds to the story.
  4. Sense of perspective – remember why you are doing the challenge, the experience that you are fortunate to have and the difference you are making to The Katie Piper Foundation with your fundraising and awareness generation. 
Trek grading

The Jurassic Coast Trek is graded as a ‘Tough’ challenge given you will be trekking along the undulating coastline of the Jurassic Coast.

There are some steep ascents and descents on uneven terrain plus covering 25km in distance makes for a challenging one-day hike.

Weather conditions can be a major influence on this trek as well giving it’s coastal location, strong sea breezes can be a factor. However, training, preparation, quality kit and a good dose of gritty determination & endurance will see you get the most enjoyment and reward from this event. 

Please check the Met Office weather forecast prior to your trek so you are sufficiently prepared.

Training

A training programme will be provided when you sign up for this trek to help you with your preparations. The more you are prepared, the more you will enjoy the challenge.

Kit

A full kit list will be provided when you register for the Jurassic Coast Trek. Good kit can make the difference between a fantastic adventure and an uncomfortable one. Well worn in waterproof hiking boots are essential together with a good quality waterproof jacket AND trousers. Weather

The weather in along the Jurassic Coast can change rapidly so it is essential that you are prepared for all conditions including rain, wind and heat. In the week leading up to your trip we recommend checking the weather forecast and you will also receive weather updates via our mobile travel app.

Please note, the Leader/s reserve the right to change the itinerary at any time should the conditions require it as your safety and well-being is our top priority at all times.  In these circumstances we will make the best alternative arrangements possible that maintain the integrity of the original itinerary.

Accommodation

There is no accommodation included with your Jurassic Coast Trek given you the flexibility to make your own arrangements. Whether you wish to stay overnight following the completion of your trek or make your way home if you live nearby. A list of accommodation places in the area will be provided on booking.

 

 

 

Food & drinks

During the trek there will be snack stops along the route together with a lunch stop where you can take a break and refuel with some delicious snacks, packed lunch and water. The packed lunch will be local produce in order to support the local community. We do ask you to bring your own water bottles and flasks to refill in order to help keep the amount of plastic waste on this trek to an absolute minimum. Plus given it’s a long-distance trek, we recommend bringing some of our own favourite high calorie snacks, both sweet & savoury, to help you on your journey. Please remove as much packaging as you can prior to the trek and take any litter with you and dispose of appropriately. 

A lite meal and celebratory fizz will also be served on completion of your trek.

We can accommodate your dietary requirements however please let us know in advance of any particular needs or allergies so we can ensure there is sufficient food and drink for you.

Emergencies

Your Adventurous Ewe Leader/s and Crew will have a mobile phones and radios communications in case of emergencies. The team are trained to deal with these situations. Please ensure you listen to your Leader during these times and refrain from putting any posts on social media during this time. Should you find yourself unable to continue with the trek, your Leader and crew will make the necessary arrangements. Depending on the situation, you will be met by the support vehicle (depending on access) and you will be transferred back to your accommodation or nearby medical facility as required. Sustainable and Responsible Travel

Adventurous Ewe is committed to delivering our treks in a responsible and ethical manner with sustainability at its core. We respect and aim to operate our adventures to benefit local people, their economy and the environment!

Some of the sustainable features embedded in our Jurassic Coast Trek are:

  • We only operate with small groups which have less impact on local communities and the environment and give you a more authentic experience
  • Using local crew who are qualified leaders and extremely experienced, passionate and knowledgeable
  • We do not use any single use plastic and refill water bottles and flasks to avoid the need to purchase bottled water
  • We stay in locally owned accommodation wherever possible
  • Our packed lunches are provided by a local cafe who use local produce and do not use any single use plastics 
  • Encourage our suppliers to adopt more sustainable practices and also choose suppliers who already have greener practices in place
  • We encourage you to travel to and from the Jurassic Coast via train in order to reduce carbon emissions
  • We do not use any route markers which are often made from plastic based products and non-biodegradable
  • Where possible, our Leaders collect any rubbish enroute
  • We recycle and reuse wherever possible
  • We always operate by our ‘Leave no trave ethos’ – Take nothing but photos, leave nothing but boot-prints, keep nothing but memories
