Overview

Step into a world of untamed wilderness with our exclusive hut-to-hut hiking adventure, journeying from Sweden to Norway through the Arctic tundra of Abisko National Park. This carefully curated trek, born from meticulous planning and reconnaissance, offers an unparalleled opportunity to explore a lesser-known region steeped in history, culture, and raw natural beauty.

Leave the crowds of the King’s Trail behind as you venture north toward Norway, weaving through valleys that hum with the wind’s song and ascending into landscapes where the mountains grow ever more dramatic with each step. Mornings begin with a freshly brewed coffee and hearty breakfast, fuelling your journey through rugged terrain and breathtaking panoramas.

Delve deep into the stories of history as you uncover the secrets of World War II in this remote Arctic frontier. Along the way, you’ll stay in one of the smallest and most storied huts of the Swedish Tourism Association, a site that once harboured the Norwegian resistance during the war. Here, the walls hold tales of daring missions and fierce battles, bringing the area’s remarkable past to life.

But this trek is more than a walk through history; it’s an immersive experience in Arctic living. Swim in remote lakes, gather fresh water from flowing rivers, and prepare your own meals as you embrace the simplicity and wonder of life in the wild. With a manageable pace that allows you to carry your own kit, each day culminates in the cozy warmth of a mountain hut, offering the perfect blend of challenge and comfort.

Designed for the curious adventurer, this journey requires no prior experience, thanks to comprehensive training programme included in the package. Guided by Sofia Zackrisson, our local Arctic Guide, this exclusive trek promises an unforgettable exploration of Lapland’s dramatic landscapes, culminating in the rugged Norwegian coastline.

Weather

The weather in Lapland from August to September is generally stable. Because of its continental, dry climate, the Lappish cold is more bearable than in Western Europe. You can expect temperatures from 0°C to 10°C during the evening and from 10°C to 20°C during the days .

Late Summer and Autumn in Lapland: A Season of Transformation and Beauty

Late summer and autumn bring a stunning transformation to Lapland, offering a truly magical experience in this wild, remote region. By late August and September, the vibrant greens of the tundra and forests begin to shift into fiery shades of orange, red, and gold. This natural spectacle, known as “ruska,” paints the landscape in breathtaking autumnal hues, providing a perfect backdrop for an unforgettable adventure.

The air is crisp, and while the days are still long, the evenings start to draw in, creating the perfect conditions for stargazing. The Northern Lights, or Aurora Borealis. Late summer and autumn are ideal times for spotting the Aurora, as the reduced cloud cover and minimal light pollution offer prime viewing opportunities. The changing seasons also bring cooler, yet comfortable temperatures, perfect for trekking, foraging for berries, and soaking in the tranquility of Lapland’s pristine wilderness.

Please note, the Expedition Leader reserves the right to change the itinerary at any time should the conditions require it. In these circumstances we will make the best alternative arrangements possible that maintain the integrity of the original itinerary.
