Overview
Experience the rugged landscape of Snowdonia with this one day action packed challenge of cycling, trekking and kayaking.
The Snowdon Challenge was created by Adventurous Ewe and is proudly our flagship event right here in our own backyard. Chief Ewe, Jim Young, carefully crafted this trip in order to showcase a variety of stunning landscapes across Snowdonia plus give you the chance to experience a variety of fun activities along the way. The event also supports the local communities in terms of using local leaders & crew, local accommodation and catering providers.
In teams of up to 10 people, you’ll complete each leg of the Snowdon Challenge accompanied by one of our friendly leaders. There’ll be checkpoints in-between each activity to provide you with snacks to refuel, a home-made packed lunch of local produce and you’ll have the chance to refill your water bottles and flasks. All equipment hire is included – bikes, helmets, double sit-on-top kayaks, buoyancy aids & paddles.
You don’t have to be a pro at cycling or kayaking, just have an adventurous spirit which will see you conquer this 24.5-mile route in the epic Snowdonia landscape.
It’s a perfect weekend away in the heart of one of the UK’s greatest adventure playgrounds. Plus, why not extend your adventure with a trip to Zip World, Bounce Below, Adventure Parc Snowdonia or visit an impressive historic castle at Harlech, Caernarfon or Conwy. Make your weekend in Snowdonia an adventurous one. We can help with further info or bookings.

Your journey takes you along the shores of Llyn Padarn, through beautiful Welsh countryside and quaint villages with the peak of Snowdon looming in the distance.

Homegrown multi activity adventure
Since the COVID-19 pandemic has had a huge impact on local communities and livelihoods, we’re keen to promote adventures on home ground particularly to help support the local tourism industry here whilst also giving you the chance to get out and explore our incredible Snowdonian landscapes. With being a Gold Level Snowdonia National Park Ambassador, we’re delighted to do our part to improve your experience of Snowdonia in an educational, sustainable & fun manner too.
This adventure has been created by Adventurous Ewe to let you experience both the remote and popular areas of Snowdonia National Park including reaching the top of the highest point in Wales, Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon at 1085m). Plus it gives you the chance to step out of your comfort zone, gain a greater understanding of the mountains, local environments and communities and take on different activities. It’s a baaaa-rilliant 1-day adventure.
We’ve crunched the numbers to work out the total carbon footprint of the Snowdon Challenge and plant or protect enough trees to suck 2x as much back out the atmosphere.
What’s the number?
It works out on average at 29kg of CO2 emissions per person, including all local transport, accommodation, food, activities, leaders, crew and office operations.
The only thing not included is travel to Snowdonia. Given that our beloved guests travel from all parts of the UK for this adventure we have no way of reliably knowing their travel plans therefore we’re unable to include an individual number in the figure on display here.
What does the number mean?
To give some meaning to the numbers:
- Driving 20 miles in the car: 6kg CO2e
- The average UK person per day: 41kg CO2e
- A typical Dubai hotel room for the night: 99kg CO2e
- An economy ticket from London to Ibiza: 206kg CO2e
- An economy ticket from London to Vietnam: 1,352kg CO2e
- A business class ticket from London to Vietnam: 3,922kg CO2e
- 10 trees in a temperate forest are estimated to remove approx. 250kg of CO2 from the air over a period of 5 – 10 years.
What are we doing about it?
Our adventures are relatively low-carbon by design, and we’re working to develop long term carbon reduction plan. Following much research into climate change organisations, we carefully selected to support the environmental charity, Cool Earth. They’re a sustainable operation and work with rainforest communities across the globe to halt deforestation and it’s impact on climate change. We invest 1% of our revenue into supporting critical conservation projects world-wild with Cool Earth.
On a local level, we’re an ongoing business member of the Snowdonia Society, plus Jim and Sue, together with some of our local leaders, also help the Society with their local projects such as planting native trees in Snowdonia. This is to help preserve the landscape and enhance wildlife habitat here in Snowdonia.
Want to know more?
We believe that with great travel, comes even greater responsibility. Tourism is one of the most important and largest industries on the planet. It employs more people worldwide than any other, with millions of families relying on tourism for their daily needs. At Adventurous Ewe we believe that our type of small scale, positive impact tourism can bring benefits to many communities, help preserve the environments we travel to see, and provide real and positive social exchanges. Here is our plan to do our part towards helping reduce factors that we can contributing to climate change as part of Tourism Declares a Climate Emergency.
The Snowdon Challenge was created by Adventurous Ewe and is proudly our flagship adventure right here in our own backyard of Snowdonia National Park. Chief Ewe, Jim Young, developed this multi-activity adventure in order to showcase both the well known and hidden pockets of this stunning area, plus give you the chance to experience a variety of fun activities along the way.
In teams of up to 10 people, you will complete each leg of the challenge and there will be a checkpoint in between where you will have access to your small kit bag in order to change your clothing and shoes. These checkpoints will also provide you with snacks to refuel, a local home-made packed lunch and you’ll have the chance to refill your water bottles.
All equipment hire is included – bikes, helmets, double sit-on-top kayaks, buoyancy aids & paddles. When booking on to this challenge, please let us know your height details so we can organise the correct sized bike for you or if you wish to bring your own bike & helmet, please let us know in advance. You are welcome to bring your own bike and helmet if you wish.

“The adventure was so well organised, the accommodation, briefing, equipment and by far the snacks and packed lunch was delicious. Sam, our guide was lovely, both helpful and encouraging. We couldn’t of asked for more from you.”
Lisa
“Many thanks – it was a really great event and Sue and the rest of the team were so well organised, really friendly and made you feel like it was supposed to be a good fun day, rather than a race.
I really enjoyed it and would definitely recommend Adventurous Ewe!”
Sally
“Sue – thank you for all your help in the set up and the running of the day, it was seamless and made everything a 100 times better. You were awesome.
The whole operation was brilliant, it’s so slick and I cannot fault it. The nice extras of tea, coffee, water and snacks were the perfect addition and I know everyone was super grateful for that nice touch.
Also, whoever made the sandwiches, that chutney was amazing in the cheese ones and that flapjack! Definitely a winner. Thank you for looking after everyone so well.”
